PALMETTO WOOD FLOORS

1. How long does it take to install hardwood floors?

The installation time depends on the size of the space, the type of flooring, and the installation method. On average, it can take anywhere from a few days to a week, including acclimation time for solid hardwood.

2. What is the best way to maintain my hardwood floors?

Regular sweeping or vacuuming (with a hardwood-safe attachment) and occasional damp mopping with a wood-safe cleaner will help keep your floors looking great. Avoid excessive moisture and use protective pads under furniture.

3. Can hardwood floors be installed over concrete?

Yes! Engineered hardwood is the best option for concrete slabs, as it’s designed to handle moisture fluctuations. Solid hardwood can also be installed but requires additional preparation, such as a moisture barrier.

4. What is the difference between sanding and buffing?

Sanding removes the existing finish and a layer of wood, which is ideal for deep scratches, stains, or wear. Buffing, or “screen and recoat,” refreshes the existing finish without removing wood, making it great for maintenance.

5. How often should I refinish my hardwood floors?

Most hardwood floors should be refinished every 7-10 years, depending on wear and tear. High-traffic areas may need it sooner, while lower-traffic rooms can go longer.

6. Will sanding my floors create a lot of dust?

Our dustless sanding process captures up to 90% of the dust, making refinishing cleaner and easier than traditional sanding.

7. Can I install hardwood floors in my kitchen or bathroom?

Yes, but with caution. In kitchens, solid or engineered hardwood works well with proper sealing and maintenance. For bathrooms, engineered wood with moisture-resistant finishes is the best option, but spills should be cleaned quickly to prevent damage.

8. How do I prevent my hardwood floors from fading?

Sunlight can cause fading over time. Using area rugs, UV-protective window film, and rotating furniture can help minimize color changes. Choosing a UV-resistant finish also helps.

9. Is there a way to fix deep scratches or dents in my hardwood floor?

Minor scratches can often be buffed out or refinished. Deeper scratches may require filling or spot sanding, and in some cases, a full refinish might be necessary.

10. What are the advantages of wide plank hardwood flooring?

Wide plank floors offer a more luxurious, traditional look with fewer seams, showcasing more of the wood’s natural grain. They are popular in high-end homes and historic renovations but require proper acclimation to avoid movement issues.
